One year after Ghost Ship, Chasms return to SF
Photo by Jess Garten Much has changed since the last time I spoke with Chasms. Last October, I met the duo of Jess Labrador and Shannon Sky Madden in a San Francisco taqueria next door to the venue hosting their album release show for On the Legs of Love Purified. Now, I dial their LA number from the shelter of my Columbus bedroom. In the year since their debut album dropped and we chatted amidst warm clouds of tortillas, the band has, along with moving to Los Angeles, experienced deep periods of grief and loss. These days, Labrador tells me, [...]
Photos: Chasms and Pure Bathing Culture at the Chapel
Chasms (photo: Kristin Cofer) Recently located to southern California, Chasms performed at The Chapel last Friday evening, March 10, 2017. It was a touching performance as one of the members of the band, Sky Madden, had lost her brother in the Oakland Ghost Ship fire late last year. They were joined by Pure Bathing Culture and our photographer Kristin Cofer has this gallery to share from the night.
Chasms: Engineering the edge of synth pop
When I caught up with Madden and Labrador from Chasms before their album release show at The Knockout last week, I asked them both what pronouns they used. They chuckled. “We’re definitely home again,” Madden said. The San Francisco-based duo of Jess Labrador and Shannon Madden released their third EP, On The Legs Of Love Purified, on October 11 at The Knockout in San Francisco. Their live performance of the new album was bigger and bolder than the recording itself: a fog machine’s yellow smoke poured through the crowd, while Chasms’ drum machine boomed. Offset by soaring vocals, distorted guitar [...]

Botanist, Chasms, Foie Gras providing local talent at Elbo Room with Wallower
Local "green metal" pioneer the Botanist is bringing his unique vision to the Elbo Room stage this month, where he will be perfomring with Chasms, Wallower, and Foie Gras at Elbo Room on February 23. Botanist released VI: Flora last year on The Flenser, marking the latest chapter of his continuing saga which poetically details the demise of all mankind as flora and fauna, (namely plants), triumph over the Earth. Flora is the decidedly less misanthropic follow-up to 2013’s seething IV: Mandragora LP. As the colorful album art suggests, Flora provides a more accessible portal to "The Verdant Realm" where [...]

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Bands_to_Watch_2014.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Fourteen San Francisco Bands to Watch in 2014 We cover a whole lot of San Francisco Bay Area bands at The Bay Bridged, a sign of the wealth of musical talent here. The size of this talent pool, however, presents its own challenge: with so many interesting local bands out there, and with acts emerging seemingly every day, who are the new artists to keep a close eye on in the months to come? This mixtape takes a stab at answering that question, showcasing fourteen excellent local bands that are new to our podcast, young groups with [...]
