Cave Clove and Agouti’s upcoming double-release party

Agouti and Cave Clove, two contemporary Bay Area bands with shared roots in psychedelic rock, release their respective records at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco this Friday night. And they’ll share the stage with Battlehooch, San Francisco’s premiere purveyor of Zappaesque zanyism. Cave Clove’s Dollars To Tokens EP is a powerful five-song collection that exhibits frontwoman Katie Colver’s lyrics-driven approach, recalling everyone from Stevie Nicks to Neil Young. “I’ve only continued, my dollars have all turned to tokens. At least I’ll be able to say I’ve followed my dreams,” she sings on "Sage Advice." To gamble everything you own on [...]

Review + Photos: A unique First Friday showcase at The Uptown

Cave Clove (photo: Patric Carver) I’m still not quite sure what to make of the show that I saw last Friday at The Uptown. I think that the word 'eclectic' gets batted around too much, and I hesitate to use it to describe this lineup of artists who could all be nestled into the realm of rock or pop at some points. However, it is the closest word I can come to describing this free First Friday show. All My Pretty Ones describe themselves as ‘chamber folk’ on their Facebook page. When I think of chamber folk, I think more [...]

Cave Clove unveil debut LP at Starline Social Club

It has only been just over a year since Cave Clove, the long-running music project led by Katie Colver and featuring Melissa Kilkuskie on percussion, evolved into a full fledged four-piece. Guitarist Brent Curriden and Alisa Saario on bass have been planted themselves firmly among their compatriots from the stage to the studio. As if they had yet to log enough band hours,  they may have set a new precedent for hardcore tour life: group dentistry. Between a handful of treks up and down the West Coast, Cave Clove found the time to seclude themselves within the walls of Tiny [...]

The Bay Abridged: Dec 9 – Dec 15

In this recurring feature known as The Bay Abridged, our staff writers will provide short, witty recaps on shows they attended around the Bay Area. A scene check, a heat check, and sometimes more — stop by every Wednesday for the most comprehensive and concise recap of last week's Bay Area concert scene. The David Wax Museum at Freight and Salvage (Berkeley) Dec. 8 A subdued but appreciative Berkeley crowd, to which David Wax catered, dug the mellowness off the new album “Guesthouse” — particularly “Lose Touch with the World” had us thinking existential thoughts about the realness of the [...]

Cave Clove plan to get loud at the Rickshaw, release album news

Soulful indie rockers Cave Clove will be making the long journey from Oakland to the Rickshaw Stop next week bringing with them new music, a new bassist, and news on how soon we can see an album. The original project of singer-songwriter Katie Colver and drummer Melissa Kilkuskie has since plugged in with guitarist Brent Curriden (who may have also recognized from 1-5 of your other favorite Bay Area bands). This has brought to the table another live incarnation ready for an acoustic night featuring Katie and Brent as a duo. Most recently, enter Alisa Saario rounding out the lineup [...]

Video Premiere: Cave Clove – “My Silver Lining”

(Photo Credit: Anna Curtis) It's nice to see bands evolve. Cave Clove essentially began as a collaboration between singer-songwriter Katie Colver and drummer Melissa Kilkuskie, and retained much of the traditional singer-songwriter vibes throughout the process. As the band has expanded into a four-piece, they're exploring new, louder, territory with their sound. "We are finally finding our voice as a cohesive band and with the addition of Brent Curriden our lead guitarist things are getting loud and powerful!" explains Kilkuskie. "I think we are finally settling into the fullest potential of these songs and the results are exciting." To help [...]

Premiere: Cave Clove – “Kyrie”

(Photo: Anna Curtis) Cave Clove began as a project from Oakland's Katie Clover, who performed as a solo act with a rotating cast of musicians in shows along the West Coast. Over time, the project evolved into close collaboration between Clover and drummer Melissa Kilkuskie, until a "psychedelic experience in the ocean in Puerto Rico" led to the current name. Now a four-piece including Ryan Christopher Parks of B. Hamilton and Dave Glasebrook of Deep Ellum, Cave Clove is set to release a new 7-inch single recorded at Tiny Telephone. Today, we're so glad to give you the first listen [...]
