Video Premiere: Casey Chisholm – "Wondering"
The Bay Bridged is stoked to premiere the video for "Wondering" from Oakland one-man-band Casey Chisholm. The song is featured on his new split EP with Tabor Mountain, entitled Spill Your Guts, out now on Chisholm's own Ascension Recordings. "Wondering" showcases Chisholm's copious talents well, as he creates a gorgeous, minimalistic indie pop tune by looping various synth, drum, and vocal lines on top of each other—all played by Chisholm, a feat he performs live as well as on recording—until it all crescendoes and fades back into oblivion. Check out the full Spill Your Guts EP below. The album features [...]
A guide to an interesting and cheap Saturday night in Oakland
There's always a ton of great music going on in Oakland, but Saturday night presents a somewhat unique opportunity to see no less than five different artists previously featured on The Bay Bridged at three different venues within walking distance of each other while spending less than ten dollars total to get through the doors. What fun! To kick off your evening, swing by the Rock Paper Scissors Collective on Telegraph for a combination art exhibition closing and musical performance. Casey Chisholm's loneriffic bummer pop would be the highlight for me. Chisholm recently raised a nice amount of money for [...]
Video: Casey Chisholm – "Pick Me Up"
Oakland's Casey Chisholm just released a video for "Pick Me Up" off his split cassette with Arcata's Tabor Mountain. Like much of Chisholm's work, the track is forlorn and distant, but still catchy enough to get stuck in your head. The visuals include the demolition of CSUEB's Warren Hall, where Chisholm tells me he was the only person in a group of hundreds with his back to the implosion. Casey is currently on a West Coast tour that includes a stop at an unofficial venue in West Oakland October 19, which should have the potential to be wonderfully weird. Catch [...]
Casey Chisholm – "So Much to Lose" (ft. Nicole Kidman)
Oakland's Casey Chisholm describes himself as a "one man wolfpack," but recently teamed up with fellow Oaklander Nicole Kidman for the one-off single "So Much to Lose". The track is kicked off by an organ-esque synth riff and Kidman's solo first verse before Chisholm and guest vocalist Shannon Young form a choir on the lengthy outro, giving the track the feel of an electro funeral in an empty church. So Much to Lose Feat. Nicole Kidman by Casey Chisholm Chisholm, who also runs Ascension Recordings, tells me he is most proud of his 2012 album Born to Lose. The title [...]
Sunbeam Rd. record release party at Thee Parkside, 1/26/13
Sunbeam Rd. is playing a record release party at Thee Parkside on January 26th for new album Breathers. You might recall last year when we told you about the Kickstarter for this album. Well, it's now a reality, and Sunbeam Rd. wants you to enjoy the fruits of their labor (and perhaps also the fruits of your support). Other than requesting your presence at the record release show so they can regale you with the fine indie-pop tunes to be found on Breathers, Sunbeam Rd. posted several download codes over on the release show's Facebook event page, codes you can [...]
