Burger Boogaloo pushes dates back again
For obvious reasons, Oakland's beloved Burger Boogaloo has joined Outside Lands and the Olympics in skipping a year and rescheduling for 2021. Now, plan for the festival to take place July 10-11 of next year. Providing we are not still in the throes of a once-in-a-lifetime health crisis by then, everything else stays the same: The same killer lineup featuring Circle Jerks, Bikini Kill (who recently announced a tour around that time), Shannon Shaw, and Alice Bag, the same lovely location, and the same saucy host. They also hope that, in their absence, fans of the festival will use this [...]

Burger Boogaloo 11 Revealed: July 11-12 with Bikini Kill and more
Only 214 more shopping days until Burger Boogaloo! Don't blow your wad on fruitcake. Get the gift that keeps on giving: Boogaloo tickets! The dates are announced and the lineup revealed. Of course there will be many additions over the coming months, but as is, the Boogaloo delivers everything you have come to expect: expertly selected/reincarnated bands you have never heard of, kool-kid-power-pop you missed out on because you were still in preschool, and plenty of local lunatics. It is exciting to note that NONE of the bands have ever played the Boogaloo before. On the other hand: Master of [...]
The best Boogaloo bloopers and vendors
From the Chats to the Clams, to Mr. Waters and a giant, diving panda, this year’s Burger Boogaloo was a solid, fun-filled weekend. It certainly had its moments, and some of the best ones weren’t what we were expecting. Much like the wee-your-pants blooper reel at the end of, say, a good Will Ferrell flick, at this year’s Burger Boogaloo, some of our favorite parts were some of the most surprising ones. Overall, there were loads of killer acts, pure moments, solid vendors, and a vibe that made me proud to call Oakland home. The first thing I noticed was the [...]
Boogaloo Preview: The Chats bring funny-angry punk to Mosswood Park
“I feel bad asking / I really do / but all I need...is a BUCK OR TWO!” We feel you, boys! Every track off the Chats’ Get This in Ya has an entertaining storyline that keeps you smiling and jamming for the whole damn album. Tracks like “Bus Money” and “Smoko” are full of gripes about being young and broke, blowing money on bills, and getting pissed that mom stole the smokes. Yes yes yes. They’re coming all the way from Australia for their US tour and will be playing Burger Boogaloo this July 7. Check out the festival’s two-day [...]
Shannon and the Clams hit the road with Greta Van Fleet, the Black Keys
Oakland’s prized set of dreamboats, Shannon and the Clams, just announced their early fall tour supporting Greta Van Fleet. Later in the fall they’ll be touring with the Black Keys. Tickets are on sale now, and if you must see them earlier, come on out to Burger Boogaloo for some Clams in their element. They released their newest album, Onion, last fall and it’s another collection that just can’t disappoint — '60s beach punk never felt so good. Check out their pleasing stop-motion freaky cute video for “Backstreets.” Extra props to Cody Blanchard’s raspy good vocals and to that rat [...]
Burger Boogaloo adds to lineup, offers Valentine’s Day Sale
It's hard to believe that Oakland's Burger Boogaloo is a decade old. The raucous, two-day festival held at Mosswood Park in Oakland is full of punk spirit, oddballs, and as always, the venerable, self-declared pope of trash himself, John Waters. Held in the middle of summer festival season, Burger Boogaloo is a welcome staple for all of its gratifying eccentricities, electrifying headliners, local food vendors, and merchants. Today, Burger Boogaloo released more names for the festival, including King Tuff, Davilla 66, and Nobunny. Additionally, in celebration of Valentine's Day, a 2-for-1 "Lover's Special" sale has been announced for one day [...]
The Jesus and Mary Chain, Sheer Mag, and more play Burger Boogaloo 2019
(Shannon and the Clams at 2016's festival. photo: Jon Ching) It may only be January, but now's the time to get your summer festival plans in order. Locally, that means prepping for Burger Boogaloo, the annual gathering of misfit bands and utter mayhem in Oakland's Mosswood Park, presided over by John Waters. This year, we can expect headlining sets from bands like classics the Jesus and Mary Chain, Philly's Sheer Mag, the Scientists, beloved locals Shannon and the Clams, up-and-coming Australian act Amyl and the Sniffers, and Derv Gordon from recently-unearthed progressive rock band the Equals. Boogaloo turns 10 years [...]
Many photos of both days of Burger Boogaloo 2018
The Damned (photo: Patric Carver) With Mosswood Park now back to normal, we felt it a good idea to bring out the scene at the park just a week ago when Burger Boogaloo 2018 was in full force. Some of the bands featured in our galleries include The Flytraps, Spits, Traditional Fools, Pookie and the Poodlez, Hunx and his Punx, The Okmoniks, Mudhoney, The Mummies, DEVO, The Damned and more. Check out the many, many shots by Terry Gatechair and Patric Carver. Day 1: DEVO, Mummies, Hunx & His Punx, Mudhoney, and more Day 2: The Damned, John Waters, Firestarter, Nobunny, and more
Review + Photos: This year’s Boogaloo remained gorgeously grotesque
The Damned (photo: SarahJayn Kemp) I’ve always loved that punk rock is all spikes and chain-smoking from the outside and arts and crafts from the inside. Burger Boogaloo, the annual festival for the fringe set, is proof of that. From the bouffant boutique to the on-site screen printing of festival shirts to ramshackle equipment used by some of the bands, a firm stamp of DIY was imprinted on everything. Set in Mosswood Park June 30-July 1, Burger Boogaloo brought out all of Oakland’s finest degenerates. Kicked off by clean-cut keyboard prodigy Francis Lau of the Francis Lau Experience, the festival [...]
