Photos: Bleachers at the Fox Theater

Bleachers (photo: Robert Alleyne) September ended with a bang at the Fox Theater, with Bleachers closing out the month. It was as an eventful evening that unfolded, as frontman Jack Antonoff brought out Bleachers' manager to the stage so he could stage dive for the first time ever. The show felt like a party. One of the openers, Tangerine, are rising quickly; they put on a great-sounding set. Bishop Briggs also danced, jumped, and twirled over every inch of the stage. Three very different bands, yet they all seemed to fit, and made for a solid evening of music. [...]

Review: Charli XCX, Bleachers share top billing, but not enthusiasm

Perhaps the point Charlotte Aitchison was trying to make at the Fox Theater in Oakland Thursday evening was one of irony–-combining grrl power anthems with faux pole dancing and flashing of the lower half variety (she was covered). If so, the message was muddled. Perhaps the singer-songwriter/diva-in-training known as Charli XCX was just trying to make too big a leap on her biggest American tour – her previous San Francisco gig was at the several-hundred-capacity Slim’s – and she’s not yet ready to be Britney Spears. Or perhaps, when paired with Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers, with its high production value stage [...]

Yep, the seventh edition of the gigantic gig in Golden Gate Park kicks off Friday at noon and, as you've undoubtedly learned by now, it will be headlined by none other than Kanye, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, and The Killers. Headliners can be hit-or-miss, but the strength of Outside Lands (or any festival, for that matter) typically lies in the undercard. Sure, you may get [...]

Outside Lands Interview: Bleachers’ Jack Antonoff continues to find inspiration in his past

Jack Antonoff has written songs that have dealt with the death of his sister, and how her death impacted his life, for most of his musical career. The 30-year-old fun. guitarist was 18 when his sister Sarah died of cancer. “I wrote about it then. I wrote about it after that. I’m 30, and I write about it from the lens of now,” said Antonoff, whose new band Bleachers performs at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival on August 8. Bleachers, a band that for Antonoff is every bit as important as his Grammy-winning counterpart, is an outlet for [...]
