Photos: Black Lips at Great American Music Hall

Black Lips (photo: Ria Burman) Black Lips rocked and rolled through the Great American Music Hall Tuesday night opening their two-week West Coast tour by exploding onto the stage with support from Timmy's Organism. Before the show, the band headed to their friend's vintage clothes store, Vacation for a little photo shoot before getting hot and sweaty on stage, bringing the crowd-surfing mosh pit of an audience to rapture with high-octane musical energy.

Burger Boogaloo preview: Black Lips feel right at home with the “weirdos”

Photo Credit: Zach Wolfe During their uproarious 16-year existence, the Black Lips have played on six different continents — a journey that has brought them to exotic (and dangerous) locations that most groups wouldn’t dream of visiting, let alone include in their tour plans. The group has also graced premier billing spots at numerous festivals, and ignited unforgettable crowd reactions with their unpredictable live shows (go on You Tube and look up “Black Lips play Heaven.”) There is very little that the Black Lips haven’t seen or done. Yet even with that cache of indelible memories, Black Lips bassist/vocalist Jared Swilley [...]

Review & Photos: Black Lips provide riotous night of rock and roll at Great American

Photo by: Tim Draut If you managed to escape the Great American Music Hall last night without getting hit in the face by a beer, a shoe, an elbow, or a drink tray, you probably fucked up. The rowdy double bill of Atlanta hotheads Black Lips and The Coathangers proved to be a stomping ground for first-time stage divers, and a Monday night to be remembered (or perhaps forgotten, depending on how many beers you had). The Coathangers are easily one of the most energetic live acts to be fired out of the Burger Records cannon as of late, with [...]

The Coathangers join Black Lips at Great American

On your floor. Under your bed. In your closet. All places you’d expect to find coathangers, and that you might expect, after a long night, to find The Coathangers. The Coathangers, riding on this week’s release of their fourth LP, Suck My Shirt, will be spending the night in San Francisco next Monday. Oozing with a gleeful grit, The Coathangers sound like sticky floors, surly bartenders, and spitfire attitude. Suck My Shirt by The Coathangers With the band fresh off a stint at SXSW, the San Francisco date comes as part of a spring tour with fellow Atlantans Black Lips. [...]
