Birdmonster will celebrate 10 years at Bottom of the Hill on July 16th

Birdmonster was my introduction to the Bay Area music scene. I'm not kidding. About 10 years ago, a friend handed me a CD. It was No Midnight. I think I even wrote a review of it for a random webzine. I can't really remember; it was 10 years ago, after all, and a lot has changed since then. I've changed, fundamentally, in a lot of ways. But my appreciation for local music has remained the same (as corny as that might sound). And I think I have Birdmonster to thank for that. With No Midnight, I experienced, for the first [...]

Ticket Giveaway: WAG and Birdmonster hosting a very alt-rock night at the Bottom of the Hill

"Well I love kitties and I love puppies / I can't stand agendas and fuck all the yuppies!" WAG joyfully cries on their ode to slackerdom, "Melt," one of the best tributes to getting a little high, taking it easy and enjoying the simpler pleasures of life.  Oscillating between sleazy grooves ("Grappling With California") and early '90s grunge-tinted rockers ("Bring Back The Guillotine"), their album No Worries is full of sex, drugs, angst, hazy mornings, boring afternoons and nights you just can't quite remember.  In other words, a great rock n' roll representation of everyday life. WAG will be opening [...]

Birdmonster – "I Say What I Want"

Birdmonster is back with the fourth installment of their Singles Project, an acoustic track entitled "I Say What I Want". The song has an intensity that ebbs and flows from quiet moments with frontman Peter Arcuni's voice gently tracing over his guitar, before opening up into the more raucous chorus. Previous installments in the Singles Project included "Living", "Motel Pool", and "I Am The Wind". Stream "I Say What I Want" below, or download it for free or name your price over at their Bandcamp page. The SF-based quartet is playing the Starry Plough in Berkeley on August 17 with [...]

Birdmonster returns with 'Singles Project', drops new track "Motel Pool"

After a more than two-year drought of new material, Birdmonster returned in January with "Living", their first new track since the release of 2009's Blood Memory EP. The San Francisco indie rock outfit is back again, announcing last week that they intend to release a series of songs in the coming weeks and months under the Singles Project moniker: Welcome to the singles project. These songs were recorded in fits & spurts in assorted basements & backrooms over the last year in San Francisco. We recorded them with an old 8-track tape machine and the kindness of a few friends. Birdmonster, Collisionville play Woody Guthrie's 100th birthday tribute, 7/14/12

July 14th marks Woody Guthrie’s 100th birthday, though a lot of devoted fans just couldn't wait until this weekend: festivals and concerts in his honor have been taking place all over the world since January. Though it's not on the official program of events for the Woody Guthrie Centennial, San Francisco is celebrating with an impromptu evening of acoustic performances from local musicians, including Sonny Pete and Justin Tenuto, Collisionville and Pete Ahonen. “It seemed like serendipity; seemed to make sense for this show,” says Sonny Pete, who will be performing with Birdmonster bandmate Justin Tenuto. After not being able [...]
