Interview: BottleRock aims to bring a major music festival to wine country

Longtime Napa residents and businessmen Bob Vogt and Gabe Meyers think that as important as Napa County has been for the Bay Area in terms of food and wine, entertainment is extremely lacking. Meyers, a 42-year-old sports media producer, and Vogt, a 63-year-old lawyer and commercial real estate developer – he’s one of the principal owners of Napa’s Uptown Theatre – believe the city and region should represent more than a good meal and spa day. “You can only have so many great meals and so much great wine before you’re like, ‘I have to work off this meal – [...]

Don't miss at TIMF 2012: Best Coast

Though they've been brewing for a few years now, 2012 has been a banner year for L.A.'s Best Coast. Since the release of The Only Place, their long-playing love letter to the Golden State, earlier this year, Best Coast has been snagging mag covers across the nation, teaming up with teen stars for videos, and singer Bethany Cosentino designing a line for Urban Outfitters. As a band, they hearken back to the innocent era of '60s surf pop; a sweetly-harmonized, echoing arrangement of both sheer joy and utter heartbreak. Though they're vocal about their pride in the West coast as [...]

Noise Pop 2010: Harlem, Best Coast, The Sandwitches, Young Prisms @ Cafe du Nord

True to the nature of a show sponsored by the Columbus of uncharted music exploration, Gorilla vs. Bear's Noise Pop show took bands steaming with potential and gave them pure opportunity to shine. Du Nord's buzzing crowd last night was certainly lucky to see these bands in their SF festival debuts, and be able to say we all watched them grow. This applies to both local bands The Sandwitches and Young Prisms, whose introverted stage presence was very endearing. Though to a thinner crowd than the venue's sold out capacity predicted, Young Prisms put on a smooth delivery to their [...]
