Hidden behind the scenes is the Bay Area's rich array of recording studios, providing opportunities for artists, local and otherwise, to create great albums. An ideal studio isn't just a quiet room stocked with the right mixing board, microphones, and other gear. More than that, it's an environment in which musicians can elevate their songs, permanently capturing them at their best. There's a long history to a number of [...]

Beep – “Mbira (shortcircles Remix)”

Beep - Mbira (shortcircles remix) by shortcircles Something is definitely brewing out in the East Bay electronic pop scene - between the plethora of Mapzzz EPs and a shit ton of mixers, keyboards and the like, has grown an electronic-driven collective: James & Evander, Forest Floor, Yalls, Parentz, as well as shortcircles, who recently unleashed this remix of "Mbira" by Oakland's Beep. You can hear more remixes of local aforementioned bands, as well as one of "Rosa Parks" on shortcircles' SoundCloud.

Mixtape: Only the East Bay (Podcast #247)

Mixtape: Only the East Bay (Podcast #247) This podcast episode is part mixtape and part mea culpa. Beep's LP City of the Future premiered last week via Third Culture Records, a locals-only label supporting the likes of James and Evander, Man/Miracle, Judgement Day and more. Beep celebrates the album release this Sunday at the Hemlock with Dinosaur Feathers (Brooklyn), and The [...]
