Beatbeat Whisper, Todayokay, Vandella @ Cafe du Nord Wednesday

This Wednesday, April 14th will see a trio of local folksy bands at Cafe du Nord, some familiar, some not as much. Beatbeat Whisper will headline, with the sibling songwriting duo of Ayla and Davyd Nereo bringing their plucky, soft-spoken folk. Beatbeat Whisper - "Mismanaged Skies" Todayokay will assist in opening the evening, and will simultaneously be celebrating the release of their debut EP, All This Weaponry. The darkly rich songs from the EP can be streamed in full on Todayokay's website. Light-hearted, bluesy rock in the form of Vandella will kick things off; to prepare for the show, the [...]

Beatbeat Whisper, Mia Riddle + more @ Hotel Utah Friday

The Hotel Utah offers Beatbeat Whisper, Mia Riddle, Ari Vais and Moomaw this Friday (9pm, $6). I only wish I could offer a prediction of the evening's air, but most every band on this bill falls under a vast spectral energy of folk and Americana. For instance, I always have filed Moomaw under reverbial psych-folk, but he just as often wears the boots of a docile melody maker when performing solo. Regardless, it's up to the time and place to determine how the night plays out. Another highlight of the bill includes Mia Riddle (New York) leading her outfit in [...]

All My Pretty Ones CD Release Thursday

This Thursday, San Francisco's All My Pretty Ones will hold their CD release at Hotel Utah with The Blank Tapes and Beatbeat Whisper. All My Pretty Ones - "Rest Dream" The band has brought their multi-instrumental folk to willing ears for years now, and are following up their debut EP The Arsonist with this latest release Tone Poems. They have maybe the most tender party song I've ever heard (check out "Party Tonight" on their MySpace) and frequently feature instruments such as oboe and euphonium. Beatbeat Whisper has offered a free mp3 to "commemorate this crazy time we are living, [...]
