Bass Drum of Death to release ‘Rip This’, playing Great American

Oxford, Mississippi's Bass Drum of Death recently announced that they will release their third full-length Rip This on October 7 via Innovative Leisure, and the band just shared the track "For Blood", the album's second single. The new record – on which frontman John Barrett is joined by newly minted full-time member and collaborator Len Clark on drums and Unknown Mortal Orchestra bassist Jacob Portrait in the role of producer – was recorded in March at Prairie Sun Studios in Sonoma County and is an attempt at an unapologetic rock album to attract people from outside their usual fan base. Ben: Yuck could have gone the way of plenty of bands that lose their lead singers, which is to say that the group could have quietly imploded or shattered amid tabloid drama. Instead, the group, which released one of the best albums of 2011, returns with Glow & Behold, a late contender shaping up to be a highlight of 2013. The sound is different, less fuzzed out and more jangle pop, but it's probably for the best that the reinvention backstory seems like a footnote easily eclipsed by the work at hand.
