Dreamgaze Festival expands to San Francisco

Burnt out from the crowds of stampeding human cattle that was Outside Lands? Here's a fest off the beaten path, and into the realms of weird. The Los Angeles creative collective DreamGaze is reaching its shoegaze / post-punk / dream-pop tendrils north. Plan your next Saturday, August 29,  accordingly because LSD and the Search for God will headline, with White Cloud (members of Deafheaven), Surf Club (members of Craft Spells), Balms, and many other bands performing. Spinning between sets are a slew of local DJs including Baby J (Popgang), Dometrious James (White Cloud), Jamie Jams, and more. The location is secretively "The Cave" for [...]

Creative Adult to headline free Commune show at Elbo Room

Tomorrow evening, SF based anti-tobacco production group Commune is throwing another of their 'Commune Wednesdays' - an ongoing series of free shows featuring some of the Bay's most active and relevant bands. Tomorrow's show is headlined by Creative Adult, who have been making dreamy, and psychedelic tinged post-punk since late 2012. Occasionally jammy, but often times driving and jangly, the group are currently recording their follow up to 2013's 'Psychic Mess', which will be their second LP on Run For Cover Records; one of the members' countless collaborations with Jack Shirley at the Atomic Garden. Ring Around The Room by Creative Adult Creative [...]

Balms releases new self-titled EP

Local dream-pop / shoegaze outfit, Balms is out with their anticipated EP, following the release of their single "Golden Hair" this past July. The new EP is a six-track dreamy-filled concoction that is reminiscent of shoegaze moguls like Slowdive and Ride but still distinct enough to stand out from the crowd. A combination of lo-fi vocals, dazy guitars, and a trance-like rhythm section, Balms' newest release is the perfect soundtrack to your long drives or rainy days indoors. Their self-proclaimed "dreamare pop" genre encapsulates the album perfectly, as it a hauntingly enchanted piece of work, beautifully revealing and scarily open. From the fun, [...]

Premiere: Balms releases dream-pop single “Golden Hair”

SF-based dream-pop/shoegaze band Balms currently has a EP in the works, and in the meantime, has a new single to premiere here: "Golden Hair." "Golden Hair" is a dreamy, cosmic tune that is filled with effected vocals and an overall otherworldly tone. The band blends together sounds reminiscent of The Radio Dept. and Craft Spells to offer out a poignant, charismatic take on modern shoegaze. There's not as many effects, other than the vocals, and the guitar and rhythm section are repetitive, as if to bang a feeling into you that captivates. The result is entrancing. The song is sun-drunken-in-love good. [...]

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Bands_to_Watch_2014.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Fourteen San Francisco Bands to Watch in 2014 We cover a whole lot of San Francisco Bay Area bands at The Bay Bridged, a sign of the wealth of musical talent here. The size of this talent pool, however, presents its own challenge: with so many interesting local bands out there, and with acts emerging seemingly every day, who are the new artists to keep a close eye on in the months to come? This mixtape takes a stab at answering that question, showcasing fourteen excellent local bands that are new to our podcast, young groups with [...]

Balms release new single, “All Right”

Balms have been ramping up their promo for their upcoming EP with their newest single, "All Right". A follow up to their recent split, Surface // Over My Head, "All Right" is dreamy and alluring. After about two a half minutes of consistent tempo, open hi-hat drumming, and astral vocals, the song breaks down into a small bass solo that is a breath of relaxation. That is, until you're launched back into the mix again. Admittedly, it's easy to get lost to this track. All Right by Balms In addition to this new single, Balms will also be playing a [...]
