The Swedish heavy metal band Avatar showed support that night, and our photographer Jon Bauer was at the show to capture the gallery of both acts that you can check out below.

The name Babymetal is a wildly appropriate moniker for hardcore headbanger darlings Suzuka Nakamoto and Moa Kikuchi. And no lie, there's a huge dousing of novelty in this act: It's a candy-coated death-metal intense enough to land them a gig opening for Metallica, yet lightly sweetened enough to be deemed catchy and uptempo Japanese pop-punk. And it's worked so far -- Babymetal just landed their first US tour, rocketeering them up into BTS and BLACKPINK territory as rising Asia acts garnering major intercontinental appeal. Babymetal (photo: Ian Young) Review and Photos by Ian Young It’s an hour before doors open and the line has wrapped around the The Regency Ballroom, down Fern Street, past Polk, almost reaching Larkin. An impressively goateed guy in a black hoodie and black jeans brag-complains about spending $140 for a ticket. To any onlookers, it probably looks like the thousand or so metal-as-F dudes are in line to see a band that has the words “corpse,” “blood,” or “Satan” in its name. Nope. They’re here to see three kawaii Japanese pop idols dressed in skirts sing about chocolate, karate and bullying. They’re here for Babymetal. [...]
