Vagabon supporting Angel Olsen on fall tour, Fox show

(photo: Amanda Marsalis) Angel Olsen has announced a headlining North American tour this fall, her first full-band tour since 2017. If somehow that's not enough to bring you to Oakland's Fox Theater on December 7, Vagabon will be supporting the tour. Angel Olsen's brand new tour follows her recent collaboration with Mark Ronson on "True Blue," featured on Ronson's Late Night Feelings. In related news, Vagabon (aka Lætitia Tamko) has just announced her sophomore album. All The Women In Me is due September 27 on Nonesuch Records. Tamko played all the instruments on the album's lead single, "Flood Hands" (listen [...]

Giveaway: Angel Olsen gets up close and personal at the Nourse Theater in September

Angel Olsen is a musician we've been writing about for years. Years. She impressed us from the very beginning with her strong vocals, singable melodies, and vaguely vintage sound, and we've watched her evolve into a complex and nuanced songwriter. Though earlier singles featured upbeat, singable melodies, newer releases have taken a darker turn. Olsen got her start in the backing band of fellow alt-country presence Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, but for her San Francisco date, she'll be making a completely solo appearance. Her first solo tour since 2014, the Tiny Dreams tour comes through San Francisco next month, stopping at [...]

Angel Olsen plotting solo dates on ‘Tiny Dreams’ tour

Angel Olsen (photo: Patric Carver) Folk-pop darling Angel Olsen has announced a set of North American solo dates on her Tiny Dreams tour. With gigs planned in San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, Olsen will bring her now iconic warble to this side of the pond after having spent the last month playing throughout Europe. Having released her latest album Phases last fall, the artist is promising that the upcoming tour will feature unreleased songs, early tracks, and more from her rich catalog. Phases featured past B-sides and demos from Olsen's oeuvre of the last few years, offering an intimate [...]

Angel Olsen playing two nights at The Fillmore with Chris Cohen

(photo: Amanda Marsalis) Angel Olsen is touring throughout North America with her six-piece band in support of her latest album. Out now on Jagjaguwar, My Woman has remained one of my favorite releases of 2016. She will headline two nights at The Fillmore with support from Chris Cohen on February 15 and 16. Following 2014's Burn Your Fire For No Witness, Angel Olsen has crafted yet another masterpiece of American songwriting. With her singular voice up front more than ever on My Woman standouts like "Intern" and "Shut Up Kiss Me," Angel Olsen continues to impress with her exhaustive vocal [...]

Review & Photos: Angel Olsen @ Great American Music Hall

Photos by Gary Magill Wary from the LA rain the previous evening, Angel Olsen did her best to captivate the large crowd at Great American Music Hall on Monday night. That isn't to say her performance wasn't as stellar as expected, enchanting her audience with a setlist focusing on material from her new album, Burn Your Fire For No Witness. Olsen played guitar and sang on every song, introducing her backing band as Stuart (guitar), Emily (bass), and Josh (drums). Olsen noticed that Emily was wearing "all types of stripes" after checking on her bandmates and asking the crowd, "Is [...]

Giveaway: Angel Olsen performing at Great American Music Hall on Monday

(Photo by Zia Anger) It's always a satisfying feeling when one of your most anticipated releases of the new year ends up being one of your true favorites, and in my opinion, that's definitely the case for singer-songwriter Angel Olsen's sophomore full-length. Burn Your Fire For No Witness was released earlier this month, and is Olsen's first album with Jagjaguwar. While the early post-rock oriented singles like "Forgiven/ Forgotten" and "Hi-Five" provide immediate gratification every time, it's the melancholy slow-burners like "White Fire" and "Unfucktheworld" that leave the deepest impression. Olsen's extraordinary vocal range and talented songwriting have [...]
