Ocean Beach Music and Art Festival returns this weekend for its second edition

Perhaps because it sits on the edge of city limits and has a reputation for being perennially fog-ridden, Ocean Beach seldom gets noticed by the San Francisco masses who live closer to the Bay. Hopefully, this weekend's Ocean Beach Music and Art Festival will help change that perception and give a little more street cred to the neighborhoods that abut the Pacific Ocean. Returning for the second consecutive year to Noriega Street in the Outer Sunset, the free event will feature 20 diverse musical acts performing on Saturday. The lineup consists almost exclusively of local San Francisco acts, including Down [...]

Check out Strange Hotel’s new single, “Tightrope”

Photo by Maciej Makalowski San Francisco-based rockers Strange Hotel have new single out, one that veers in a slightly different direction from their previously established sound. Don't freak — they still rock. It's not like they woke up one morning and decided to go folk, ditching guitars for banjos and drums for a washboard. Consider it an interesting tweak rather than an excessive overhaul. The song is called "Tightrope" and it's a more atmospheric offering from the four-piece, resembling new wave psychedelia more than the old-school vibe they channeled on their eponymous LP. It's a laid-back, slow-burning, tom-driven [...]

Wave Dweller rings in August at Rickshaw Stop (+ a new Summer Peaks track)

We're in the heap of August, so Bay Area event curators Wave Dweller will be bringing some great music to Rickshaw Stop this week. The night will feature some classic garage rock n' roll coming from headliners, Hot Flash Heat Wave, the Bay Area sweethearts who bring a mix of surf rock to their sound and have been taking the local music scene by storm. Kera and the Lesbians, the folk rock group from Los Angeles who have made waves with their track "Gypsy Song", an addicting anthem-like track that will keep you moving to the beat, will also be playing before [...]

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Summer_2015_Mixtape.mp3 Download: Mixtape: San Francisco Summer Songs (Podcast #365) Even though San Francisco's summers get an unfairly bad rap, that doesn't prevent us locals from enjoying many of the best parts of the season. Days at the beach, barbecues, road trips, street fairs and festivals: sure, you might need to carry a light sweater on some of your summer excursions, but the long days can't be beat for outdoor fun. With the solstice kicking off summer earlier this week, we've compiled this mixtape of songs for the season, collecting new and recent releases by San Francisco Bay Area bands that [...]

Deathstock Fest coming to Guerneville in June

There was Woodstock ’69, Woodstock ’94 and ’99 (yikes), and now, on a completely new note, there’s Deathstock. SF label Death Records is celebrating their one year anniversary how? With a full blown two-day music festival campout in the woods - duh! The lineup is already partially announced, including many Death Records roster artists like Smiles, Air Surgeon, Tiaras, Teenage Chain, The Strange Land, and Cole Lodge, making it a truly local affair. Friends of the label like Tomorrows Tulips, Danny James, CCR Headcleaner, Part/Human, and label head Brian Wakefield’s own band Emotional are the other additions to the bill [...]

Premiere: Listen to Air Surgeon’s “Wardrobe”, off debut EP due on Death Records

San Francisco label Death Records is set to release Air Surgeon’s debut EP this spring. The local pop band is a long time favorite of Death Records – not only was their song “FRX” featured on the label’s first compilation tape released last December, but they also played the label’s inaugural tape release show. Run by Brian Wakefield of likeminded bands Melted Toys and Emotional, Death Records embraces the mentality of the SF "misfit" culture, consisting of mainly garage pop bands that are still standing strong but all too often brushed off in the wave of migration surrounding this particular [...]
