Owen Ashworth, formerly Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, bringing his new project (Advance Base) to the Bay Area
Advance Base is the new project of Owen Ashworth, whom you might know better as Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Alas, Ashworth retired the Casiotone name and all of the music back in 2010. Unlike Casiotone, Advance Base is not really a solo project, as Ashworth is joined on record and on stage by a variety of musicians. But he didn't necessarily leave the lo-fi pop or the torch songs behind when he ditched the Casiotone name. Advance Base, the new project of former Casiotone for the Painfully Alone singer/songwriter Owen Ashworth, is coming to San Francisco on June 7. Their debut album A Shut-In’s Prayer will be out on Orindal Records on May 15. So far we've only heard one single from the album — a melancholic track entitled "New Gospel" which features the same programmed, basic drums of old Casiotone recordings mixed with cleanly produced piano. It's a natural (and necessary) progression for Ashworth as he allows his deep crooning voice to carry the track without burying himself under cheap Casio tones or lo-fi distortion. [...]
