The Shotgun Wedding Quintet and Cosa Nostra Strings (photo: Jon Bauer) Last week saw the Jazz Mafia organization headed by Adam Theis arrange to have members of The Shotgun Wedding Quintet and Cosa Nostra Strings perform a live studio recording for a small audience at 25th Street Recording Studio. The event was put on by local Oakland company DoubleOone at a setting that captures a very unique live show, where the music is performed a few times to get the right take while still being a performance all in its own right. Our photographer Jon Bauer has these photos from the night to [...]

Bud. E. Luv (photo: Jon Bauer) Bud E. Luv and his 10-piece band serenaded a packed Chapel lounge-style and a seated house of Christmas enthusiasts on Friday night December 23, 2016. Review + Photos: Bryan Ferry and LP steam up The Masonic

Bryan Ferry (photo: Jon Bauer) Words & Photos By Jon Bauer The opener for Bryan Ferry on Tuesday night at The Masonic couldn't have set the tone for the night any more perfectly. Laura Pergolizzi, who goes by LP, has a voice that is strong, sexy, and swoon-worthy, and that dovetails perfectly with the band that came on soon after them. LP played a short but powerful set, the singer playing multiple instruments — even a whistle that Andrew Bird would be proud of. Bryan Ferry and his ensemble came out like a steamroller. They leapt into a set that included deep cuts from the [...]
