Santa Rosa’s Railroad Square Music Festival adds The Sam Chase to lineup featuring The Brothers Comatose and T Sisters

On June 7, Santa Rosa's Railroad Square will play host to an absolutely free festival featuring some of the Bay Area's brightest Americana and folk artists, including The Brothers Comatose, T Sisters, and the lineup's newest addition, The Sam Chase. The Railroad Square Music Festival is yet another production of The North Bay Hootenanny and its director Josh Windmiller, who also happens to front The Crux and who recently played a solo gig at the latest installment of Fog City Songwriters at Viracocha. The event is the culmination of Windmiller's love for all things Santa Rosa. "I have lived in [...]

Best of the Rest – March 2015 (Cathedrals, King Woman, Male Gaze, Vetiver, & more)

Cathedrals (photo: Jon Bauer) Every month, our editors hear lots of great new music, at shows around the Bay, exploring the far reaches of the Interwebs, and sifting through the veritable deluge of emails from artists and publicists around the globe hawking the latest songs and videos. While we’d love to write about everything that catches our ear, it’s impossible – there’s just too much good music out there. This is an attempt at rounding up the latest and greatest that we didn’t have the bandwidth to cover throughout the month – the Best of the Rest for March 2015 [...]

WATERS drops What’s Real, hit the road (watch their performance on Conan!)

WATERS has just a little bit going on right now. The band's sophomore album What's Real – frontman Van Pierszalowski's second under this moniker and his first with a revamped lineup featuring three-quarters of The Tambo Rays – drops today on Vagrant Records. Sunday night in Albuquerque, they kicked off more than two months of touring that will see the quintet join Matt And Kim for 30 shows across the continent including a gig at The Warfield in May. When they're done with those shows? They're playing Live 105's BFD 2015 and a little festival you might have heard [...]

Premiere: Phosphene – “Be Mine”

Each member of Phosphene contributed in their own unique way to the creation of the Oakland-based trio's new single, "Be Mine", which premieres today exclusively on The Bay Bridged. "It began as an acoustic, George Harrison-inspired demo that Rachel recorded," drummer Matt Hemmerich recently told me over email, referring to his bandmate and girlfriend, singer/guitarist Rachel Frankel. "I started writing lyrics based on the melody, and once the structure of the song was solidified, Kevin [Kaw] took us aback by blasting a crazy guitar solo at the end." Frankel and Kaw also swapped their traditional roles on this track, [...]

Pizza Punx celebrate two years at Santa Rosa show with White Fence and more

The North Bay's Pizza Punx started in 2013 as a way to alleviate the boredom of living in Sonoma County with a little injection of rock and roll. “Pizza Punx is about fuckin’ keeping it real and being bored as fuck and maybe giving a fuck about making your area a little more interesting,” Papa Pizza, one of their anonymous leaders, told the Oak Leaf News last year. “It’s really about rock 'n' roll and everything therein, eating too much pizza, and maybe vomiting periodically throughout the night at different people’s houses.” Sounds like a valiant mission, if you ask [...]
