Celebrate the Fourth of July with funk and hip-hop at Jack London Square

Jack London Square is the place to be on the Fourth for its annual Fourth of July Block Party. Along with various activities, vendors, food, and beer, several musical acts will perform at the event, including Afro-Latin funk band Sang Matiz, Oakland hip-hop act the Corna Sto, and reggae from Heartafiya. Immersion (with Colin Newman of Wire) brings electronic vibes to Cafe du Nord

The UK duo Immersion, featuring Colin Newman of Wire and Malka Spigel of Minimal Compact, will be performing at Cafe du Nord on June 24. The San Francisco show is the second stop on their North American tour in support of their latest album, Sleepless. The record was released on June 15 and features 10 instrumental electronic tracks. It follows the band's previous LP, Analogue Creatures Living on An Island. On the tour, the duo will be accompanied on select dates by Matt Schulz of Holy Fuck on drums. The Silhouette Era premieres new single “Jaded Summer”

Los Angeles band Black Mare will be headlining the DNA Lounge on April 18 to support their second full-length album, Death Magick Mother. San Francisco-based artist DEWR has shared "Violet’s Encore," off of his upcoming EP City & Sur. The EP is set for release on April 13, which is one day after DEWR will be playing at Rickshaw Stop along with local bands Sleeptalkers and the Bribes. Sacramento band Sunday School aims to establish Bay Area foothold

Sacramento-based Sunday School comes to Bottom of the Hill on Wednesday to make an impression on the Bay Area. New music video for “Sun” sets tone for Unlikely Heroes’ upcoming EP

Oakland-based Unlikely Heroes just released the music video for "Sun," setting the tone for the band’s upcoming self-titled EP. According to lead vocalist Enon Gaines, the EP, which was originally set to be released on March, should arrive in late April or early May. Unlikely Heroes mixes a punk sound with hip hop vocals while steering both towards a psychedelic style. The group compares themselves to a blend of Kid Cudi and Rage Against the Machine.
