Lia Rose announces debut solo album, “When You Need Me Most”

Lia Rose (of Built for the Sea, now also a member of Or, the Whale) has announced the release of her first solo album, When You Need Me Most, out January 13th. Recorded at The Hangar in Sacramento, the album features contributions from a number of well-known Bay Area folks. "Sister," for example, includes Anton Patzner (Judgement Day/Devotionals) on violin and Eric Kuhn (Silian Rail) on drums. Video: Cowboy and Indian – “Hurt My Pride” (new band featuring Daniel James of Leopold and His Fiction)

As if being the frontman for Leopold and His Fiction weren't enough, Daniel James has formed another project, Cowboy and Indian, with musicians Jazz Mills (T Bird and the Breaks) and Jesse Plemons (who you might recognize as Landry Clarke on Friday Night Lights). The first offering from the trio is this fun video shot in Chicago and northwest Indiana. The band expects to release its full length debut in the spring.

Holiday records from Wooden Shjips and Moon Duo serve up warped takes on “Auld Lang Syne” and “Silver Bells”

Out December 14th are new records from Wooden Shjips and Moon Duo, featuring both bands' fuzzed-out takes on holiday traditionals. Wooden Shjips' versions of “O Tannenbaum" and "Auld Lang Syne” originally emerged on a small-release cassette in 2008. Here, they're on a green or red 12" limited to 500 copies of each color. Meanwhile, Moon Duo take on "Silver Bells" on the A-side, and "Winter," a song originally from The Rolling Stones' Goats Head Soup, on the flip. Moon Duo - "Silver Bells"

Drunk driving accident benefit at Mighty on Friday includes Nosaj Thing, Jel and more On September 18th, 2010, our dear friend Lola Ramos was critically injured in a car accident here in San Francisco, hit by an uninsured drunk driver (read: uninsured drunk asshole). 100% of the proceeds from this show will benefit Lola and her family, paying for her substantial medical bills and rehabilitation.
