Rebirth founder “Tuba Phil” live at Yoshi’s in 2013

Ain’t no party like a Rebirth Party! Live music returns! Most of it kicks off in August but over in Orinda you need not wait that long. Paper Moon Presents is starting to bring live music to Bruns Amphitheater for their first time.

For years this gorgeous venue has primarily hosted Shakespeare. Now, I dig Shakespeare, but July 3rd and 4th The Rebirth Brass Band will play their only California shows for 2020 or 2021, so William must wait.

Rebirth are true trailblazers. Formed in 1983, they were the first brass band to win a Grammy. Not familiar with brass bands? This is a perfect way to change all that. Brass bands are the heart and soul of New Orleans, the undisputed birthplace of jazz. One visit to The Big Easy and you will be hooked. (The New Orleans Jazz Fest is happening this year by the way, October 8-17.)

Food, beer, and wine will be available and you will not require proof of immunization (but get immunized if you haven’t yet!). Come early, have a picnic, and enjoy the warm evenings that you rarely get West of the Caldecott Tunnel. No outside food or drink is permitted.

On Saturday the gates open at 5pm with music starting at 7pm. Berkeley born singer-songwriter Destani Wolf opens the show. Get Saturday tickets HERE.

For the Sunday show, gates are at 3pm with music at 5pm. Bay Area Zydeco band, The Funky Gators are the opening act. Grab Sunday tickets HERE.

Do check out the Paper Moon link above. Did we mention Taj Mahal is playing July 2nd??
