Eyedress, the LA-based project of Manila-born Idris Vicuna, is a psych rock experience. It’s got some poppy punk and lots of shoegaze dreaminess.
My first exposure to Eyedress was the music video for “I Don’t Wanna Be Your Friend,” and frankly I was confused. What the hell is this kid with the “fuck everybody” hat doing on this janky skater-vibed camera set up with the low production quality and simple bassline? Then I got hooked on the tone and the words and the vibe and couldn’t stop watching. Before I knew it, I realized the beauty of this fine specimen: Each song is so different and captivating. Some are poppy grunge rock and some are rather angelic and sensual, like his latest single, “Trauma.” The guy has created an impressive catalog, rolling out songs and videos like bing-bang-boom. He’s bringing his hypnotic stage presence to Bottom of the Hill on December 4 and surely it’ll be a show worth attending. Check out his mini documentary for a tiny taste of his backstory and what Eyedress is all about. Shout out to “Toxic Masculinity,” below.
