More Fatter is back, with a batch of crispy funk tunes to warm up your chilly Bay Area apartment in these coming winter months. Featuring “Yeah You” and “Silly Goose,” which The Bay Bridged covered earlier this year, this is the EP for you if you’re getting a little sick of solemn indie jams. On this project, the band wanted to celebrate the wildly colorful and chaotic range of life — and though there are moments of darkness on this project, this group of charming choir boys will have you grinning through the ups and the downs.
The band retains a very classic funk sound — Théo Fédronic’s trumpet takes center stage during many of the climactic moments of the album, usually accompanied by a powerful wail from lead singer Márk Fédronic. Tommy Economou and Gustaf Claesson’s basslines are the guiding force in many of these songs, holding down a groove even as every other instrument ascends into intentional chaos. There’s also elements of EDM and hip-hop present in the production — plenty of cathartic breakdowns are spread across the tight eight-song track list.

More Fatter reportedly had some difficulty transitioning into recording songs that they’d been playing live. The recorded tracks felt like they lost some of the raw moments the band took pride in sharing with fans, so towards the end of their time in the studio, they all grabbed their instruments and jammed for 40 minutes straight. Of those 40 minutes, only about a minute and 20 seconds made it onto the EP as “Fatterlude 1” and “Fatterlude 2.” However brief they may be, these tracks bring that unpredictable jam-band type feeling back to a record that is otherwise immaculately produced.
Perhaps most striking is this album’s dynamics. The choir boys are remarkably restrained, but when they get loud they get really loud, with the Fédronics’ voices straining against wailing guitars and chunky bass lines. All this emotional and dynamic range is compressed into 18 minutes, and More Fatter lets none of that time go to waste.
