Vetiver released “To Who Knows Where,” the first single from new album Up On High, out November 1, 2019. The song is deeply rooted in the acoustic guitar, thoughtful storytelling, and the pastoral landscapes found in the most escapist of folk music. It’s an undeniably beautiful song, and we can’t wait to hear the rest of the full-length record.
“To Who Knows Where” pairs Andy Cabic’s wistful guitar playing and wandersome lyrics with tight drums and sparse production. Each and every sound blends into a hazy and blissful dreamscape; nothing feels out of place. On hiatus are the washy synth pads and whirring of analog drum machines — this single feels intentionally more natural than singles from recent Vetiver records The Errant Charm and Complete Strangers.
What’s left is the Vetiver of Tight Knit and earlier — as always contemplative, profound, and calming — but rooted in sounds found in the physical world. Take the all-encompassing beauty found in Rolling Sea, give it a bit of a groove, and you might find yourself on a path “To Who Knows Where.”
