Johnathan Rice and the Felice Brothers charmed fans both new and old at the Chapel last Wednesday night.

The evening began with hushed set by Johnathan Rice, who punctuated tender songs from his new album The Long Game with dead-pan readings from his book of poetry Farewell My Dudes: 69 Dystopian Haikus. He finished off with two gorgeous ballads: “Hollow Jubilee” and the new album’s title track.

The Felice Brothers, who Rice introduced as “one of the finest bands in this hemisphere,” took the stage promptly at 9pm. Alternating between an introspective daze and a rug-cutting good time, brothers Ian and James (alongside Will Lawrence and Jesske Hume) played selections from their new record Undress as well as audience favorites “Whiskey in My Whiskey,” ”Love Me Tenderly,” and others.

It’s always a treat to see nationally touring acts at an intimate venue like the Chapel, and Wednesday’s show was no exception. Check out a gallery of photos from the evening below.
