West Bay native Tony Molina has just announced the release of his upcoming rarities collection, Songs From San Mateo County. The record is due July 19 and it is available for pre-order from the Smoking Room label. The vinyl/cassette pre-order bundles are already sold out, but the LP is still availavle indivually for now. A pair of tracks from the collection, “Not The Way To Be” and “Can’t Find My Way,” are availale for streaming ahead of release.

Tony Molina is going on tour with Culture Abuse this summer, kicking things off at the Chapel on Thursday, June 6. Since this is the first stop on the tour, local fans might have a better chance of buying an early test pressing of Songs From San Mateo County from the merch table while supplies last. The North American tour will continue with a stop at LA’s Teragram Ballroom on Friday, then head out towards the East Coast and circle back up for a final date in Portland on July 6.

Songs From San Mateo County pulls a handful of cherry-picked deep cuts from some of Tony’s early cassette-only releases such as Embarassing Times (2009) and Smoking Room’s own West Bay Grease (2017). It also includes a few reworked solo versions of songs from older Tony Molina projects including Ovens and Violent Change. Even the most dedicated Molina devotee should uncover some overlooked gems here.
