Avey Tare (a.k.a. David Portner), an acclaimed solo artist and principal member of Animal Collective and Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, is touring in support of his latest album. The new solo record, Cows On Hourglass Pond, is out now via Domino. Avey Tare is playing the Chapel in San Francisco on April 15, with Paradot opening the show.

The Cows On Hourglass Pond LP, mixed by Portner and Adam McDaniel, was notably recorded by Portner at Laughing Gas in Asheville, North Carolina on a unique Tascam 48 half-inch reel-to-reel tape machine. Abby Portner directed the music videos for album singles “HORS_” and “Saturdays (Again).” Watch the videos below for a taste of the new record. Digital and vinyl copies of the album are available through Bandcamp, via Domino.

Avey Tare’s latest full-length follows the 2017 release of Eucalyptus, and Essence of Eucalyptus EP. His swampy solo debut Down There was released in 2010 via Paw Tracks. The sunlit, cow-grazing pastures packaged with the warmer sounds of David Portner’s latest solo release mark a thematic shift from the darker, alligator-infested marshes of his artful debut.

As of now, Avey Tare is also the only member of Animal Collective who has contributed to all of the band’s studio releases. Catch Avey Tare’s Cows On Hourglass Pond tour at the Chapel on Monday, April 15, 2019.
