As if this hasn’t already been a great year for music so far, Hand Habits just released their new LP placeholder on March 1 via Saddle Creek. Now out on tour, Hand Habits will headline a show on March 23 at Swedish American Hall with support from Oakland-based artists Stephen Steinbrink and Wizard Apprentice.
Hand Habits is the musical project of Meg Duffy (who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns), currently based in Los Angeles. While Duffy took more of a solo, DIY approach to their home-recorded 2017 debut Wildly Idle (Humble Before The Void), they decided to record placeholder with collaborators in a studio.
Now playing as a full band, Duffy takes the role of singer, songwriter, composer and producer. As a gifted guitarist and now a bandleader, Duffy also plays organ, piano and synth on the album. Duffy’s lyrics have an air of wistful confidence, with themes of change and self-discovery abound. It all comes together as a gorgeous sophomore effort, with placeholder becoming more of a standout than the title suggests.
Stream placeholder bellow, and catch Hand Habits with Oakland’s Stephen Steinbrink and Wizard Apprentice at Swedish American Hall on Saturday, March 23, 2019.
