Elujay‘s 2016 rap love letter to Oakland Jentrify set him on a path as another local force to watch out for. After two years of collecting nods from Billboard, Fader, and Okayplayer, and even booking a feature on the popular COLORS Berlin series, a string of loosies hinted at a full-on pivot away from rap which has come to fruition in his newest project, Adojio, out today.

Despite being only 22 years old, Adojio proves what an old soul Elujay is. Warm and experimental, tracks like “Get U” and “Spaceships” forgoes theme, formalities or cohesion for the sake of creativity and making music on his own terms. Elu never wanted to be conformed into just being a rapper or even just being a R&B artist.

“I don’t want people to see me as just one thing. I wear so many different hats,” he said in a recent DJBooth interview “I just want to be creative. I want to do everything. After I turn these mixes in I’m about to take a second and immerse myself back in the mediums I loved before I was making music.”
