How is it even possible that we’re already approaching the 3rd Thursday in August? As summer comes to a close, Civic Center Commons is back with another 3rd Thursdays Block Party event to see it off — this time, featuring local favorites Sonny and the Sunsets, Banzai Cliff, and Golden Gram. We likely don’t need to introduce you to local indie-rock legend Sonny Smith, but Golden Gram writes charming lo-fi tunes and Banzai Cliff makes grungy, crunchy power-pop over in Oakland.
Running from 5-9pm, 3rd Thursdays at Civic Center Plaza are the perfect happy-hour diversion for the whole fam. With entertainment curated by local promoter Another Planet Entertainment, along with outdoor games from SF Social (volleyball, anyone?) and noshes from Off the Grid, 3rd Thursdays is fun, free, and accessible by BART. There’s also a cool new art installation nearby: “Invisible Man and the Masque of Blackness,” brought to the City by the SF Arts Commission.
There are a few more events happening in September and October, before the weather gets drizzly. This might be your last chance to see 3rd Thursdays in the sun. If you can’t make it, they also offer weekend block parties on 1st Sundays through November 4.
