What ever happened to the Slits?
It’s a question that was asked and will be answered in the Slits’ documentary Here to be Heard: The Story of The Slits. The film tells the story of the first ever all-girl punk band during the mid-’70s, who pioneered the musical movement known as “Punky Reggae.”
Since premiering at the BFI London Film Festival, director William Badgley announced a US screening tour with two stops in the Bay Area on June 24. For those living in East Bay, there will be a 3pm matinee at the New Parkway Theatre in Oakland and across the bridge, there’ll be a night screening at the Alamo Drafthouse.
Both screenings will include a special Q&A with Badgley and the following guests: The Slits’ own Palmolive, Allison Wolfe (Bratmobile/Ex Stains), and Jennifer Shagawat (Shellshagg).
