On April 26, San Francisco surf band Sandy’s will release a new, daydreamy EP titled Chime. These bona fide surfers let their inspiration flow freely at singer Alexi Glickman’s seaside cabin one long weekend, in hopes of sparking spontaneous musical magic. Motivated in part by the fun-loving spirit of Christopher Guest‘s films, the members of Sandy’s became the merry cast of Chime, falling into step with Glickman’s loosely structured chords and melodies while maintaining an easy going surfer vibe.
Glickman recounts his vision for building an intuitive, joyous recording atmosphere: “My wife and I moved to a a little beachside cabin on a big piece of land and I wondered what would happen if we jammed and surfed and cooked together — recording all the while.”
Chime reflects Sandy’s commitment to creating a genuine surf “record dripping with vibe,” as band member Cody Rhodes aptly describes it.
