Wax Idols have a big night ahead on April 14, when they will headline the Great American Music Hall to play their upcoming album from start to finish.

The show will be the first chance for listeners to get a full live preview of Happy Ending a month before its release. The Oakland band will be joined by local bands pardoner and HUMID.

“It’s a cool way for us to showcase all the work we have been doing the last few years and where we’re at as a group now which we’re really proud of,” said bandleader Hether Fortune. “It’s important to us to give the Bay Area people who have supported the band from the beginning the first opportunity to hear the record and have a unique experience.”

Happy Endings is the fourth album from the post-punk band and is due to come out on May 16 via Etruscan Gold Records. The new album continues the group’s venturing toward a deeper dark wave sound while exploring beyond the themes expressed in their third album, American Tragic.

Notably, while Fortune did the bulk of the songwriting on previous Wax Idols albums, the new release was written more collaboratively, with drummer Rachel Travers and guitarist Peter Lightning also bringing ideas to the table.

“We kind of put our heads together and wrote what came naturally to us,” Fortune said. “There was no particular sonic direction we were taking intentionally, we just wanted to write the best music that we could together.”

The band will continue touring the US, with a show at Eli’s Mile High Club in Oakland on June 15, and they will be playing their first international show, which is something they have been looking forward to do. Once they get bored, Fortune said, they’ll get started on their next album.

As a preview, Wax Idols just shared “Crashing,” their third single off of Happy Ending:
