Fever Ray, the solo project of the Knife‘s Karin Dreijer, is performing at Fox Oakland in support of xir latest album Plunge. Eight years after debuting the project with an eponymous debut, Fever Ray dropped Plunge as a surprise digital release in October 2017 after sharing the video for the LP’s lead single “To the Moon and Back.” A physical release followed in February 2018, along with thematically sequenced videos for the album’s remaining singles.

Plunge was primarily recorded in Dreijer’s Stockholm studio with producers Paula Temple, Deena Abdelwahed, NIDIA, Tami T, Peder Mannerfelt, and Johannes Berglund. In stark contrast to the somber, brooding themes of hope and alienation on Fever Ray’s self-titled debut, the more upbeat, colorful alt-dance cuts on Plunge celebrate rebirth, sexuality, and queer culture to viscerally gratifying effect. This is Fever Ray’s first US tour since 2010, and with Dreijer and xir collaborators sporting avant-garde costumes and set pieces to accentuate the new material, I personally wouldn’t consider missing this one.

Tickets are still available for now, but I would highly suggest purchasing them in advance as Fever Ray’s tour dates have been selling out worldwide. Bunny Michael will support the Oakland show on May 26.
