Ceremony has a deep-rooted love for the North Bay Area. Well, most of it. The band’s seminal LP Rohnert Park, named after their hometown, doesn’t exactly resonate with fond sentiment. But just minutes down the freeway, you’ll find the Phoenix Theater, a venue that holds a special place in the hearts of many Bay Area artists, including Ceremony guitarist Anthony Anzaldo Jr.
“The Phoenix holds a great significance with Ceremony. We played our first show there, and next to Gilman Street it was probably the venue we played the most in the first few years of the band.”
This Saturday, Anzaldo and the band will be headlining a stacked line-up featuring heavy hitters from the Bay Area and beyond, including Power Trip, Touché Amoré, Black Marble, King Woman, Culture Abuse, Fury, Screature, Hide, Acrylics, Super Unison.
“The motivation behind Home Sick was to put together an event that showcased the diversity in underground music right now,” explains Anzaldo. “Typically that diversity is only highlighted at the larger festivals like Coachella, FYF, Fun Fun Fun, et cetera while the more mid-level events are more genre-specific. For the better, it seems that the lines that have separated many of the underground scenes have been blurred so I set out to create event that represented that.”
And since it’s in the North Bay, a portion of the proceeds will go to helping the survivors of the wildfires. Don’t sleep on this one.
