(photo: Jon Bauer)Psychedelic funk and soul was pioneered here in the Bay Area with bands like Sly and the Family Stone, but it’s Con Brio who keep that pulse alive these days. After their performance at Austin City Limits a few years ago, PopMatters called the band “the best new live band in America.” Noise Pop will be presenting the band for two nights, including New Year’s Eve, at the Swedish American Music Hall.

Con Brio has had a whirlwind few years as their popularity beyond San Francisco has soared. They’ve been featured at nearly every major festival (Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Outside Lands, among others) and crossed continents to Europe and Asia. This has all honed these “masters of funk” (Noise Pop) into a hard-partying, yet conscious and high-energy bonanza (of note: the video above was filmed inside Swedish American). If you’re worried about standing for hours, the Viking VIP upgrade gets you premium balcony seating, though the thrones are first come, first served.
