In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Over half of the songs in this mix are from Bay Area artists, including a recent song from Sob Stories, a new jangle pop bad led by Joel Cusamano of Talkies, Cocktails, and DSTVV. Local hip hop duo DJ Flow & Mani Draper met earlier this year, but the pair’s debut LP shows a natural chemistry between the Richmond MC and the local DJ/producer. Classic SF power pop band Flamin’ Groovies just put out their first new album in over 20 years, with singer Chris Wilson back in the band alongside co-founder Cyril Jordan.

Be sure to check out a looping electronic composition from Kohinoorgasm, taking part in Women’s Audio Mission’s quarterly “Local Sirens” showcase of local women musicians, and sax-propelled post-punk from the great band The World‘s first LP. Also local: enjoy a frenetic 67-second piece of punk by Nopes, and some wild thrash courtesy of Creepsylvania’s Ghoul.

On the touring front, Thee Oh Sees’ offshoot OCS is a stellar psych-folk collaboration between John Dwyer and Brigid Dawson. The lineup is stacked for the band’s two benefit shows at The Chapel this month, with Ty Segall and Shannon Lay opening both nights. Finally, two songwriters coming to the Bay this month draw inspiration from their home cities, including Chicago musician and activist Jamila Woods, and New York City’s Shilpa Ray.

Enjoy the podcast and then go see some concerts!
