Last Fall, lo-fi indie rock and roll pioneers the Pixies surprised everybody when they announced a brief, four-stop “pre-tour” limited to small California clubs. As they approach the midpoint in their venture, the band has officially announced that it will end (almost) where the tour began.
The second weekend of December will see the four-piece veteran band hanging out for no less than three Bay Area shows. The lineup, oft-changing as it is, seems to have found a comfortable fit with original and founding members Black Francis, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering meshing with newcomer Paz Lenchantin who has taken over bass guitar duties and appears on the Pixies’ most recent release, 2016’s Head Carrier.
The Pixies return to the Bay begins on Thursday, December 7 at the Fox Theater in Oakland. They take Friday off (or perhaps are waiting to announce a proper San Francisco show) before trekking out to Napa’s Uptown Theatre and close the tour on Sunday, December 10 at the City National Civic theater in San Jose. They will be joined in Oakland, Napa, and San Jose by up-and-coming rock and roll outfit Whitney.
