meklit

Meklit is a brilliant artist, who already has a TED Talk and a highly acclaimed album under her belt. She has worked with Andrew Bird and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, both of whom appear on her new album When The People Move, The Music Moves Too, out June 23 via Six Degrees Records.

“Supernova” is off of the upcoming album, and takes directly from NASA’s recordings of the sounds of stars. Meklit’s beautiful voice is reminiscent of Lianne La Havas, and her complex mesh of percussion makes for an incredible beat. She has a diverse range of influences, ranging from jazz to her Ethiopian heritage. She says, “I’m always thinking about America and Ethiopia, about how the hybridization is going to work in both places.”

Meklit is a talented musician, and her new album is sure to be something very special.
