In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Richmond’s Rayana Jay — performing at our 2017 Phono del Sol Music & Food Festival with a ton of other great artists — is one of a number of amazing singer-songwriters included this month’s mix. Girl in a Coma frontwoman Nina Diaz battled through addiction to craft a musically diverse solo debut, and she’s coming to Cafe du Nord later this month. Tim Darcy‘s first solo album allows the musician to showcase his voice in a more stripped-down environment than with his post-punk band Ought, and New Zealand’s Aldous Harding has a new album of spare folk that is simply stunning.
There’s also a strong showing by electronic pop musicians in this month’s mix, with local highlights from NRVS LVRS‘ new album, a new single by Cathedrals, and MANICS, a duo headlining a Popgang Records showcase of local electronic sounds. On the touring side, June sees the welcome return of Land of Talk behind the group’s first album since 2010.
