Oakland drum, bass, and synth trio Outer Embassy is set to release their debut LP June 2. Outer Embassy “was born from the desire to find a distinct crossing point of 70s Krautrock experimentalism, West-African soul rhythms, and sonic synthery.” At their core, Outer Embassy is simply making dance music that isn’t quite like anything you’ve heard. Drum and bass are the driving force throughout the LP, with the use of synths and vocals adding sonic color that never draw attention away from the rhythm. Their influences mentioned are present on the album, but they aren’t beholden to them – the end result is an entirely new psych dance experience that feels completely natural.
On their video for “Ironstrike”, they of course have a great, steady rhythm, but the synth explosions will definitely help wake you up. Lead vocalist Aaron Deer also directed the video, appropriately including plenty of bursts of color. You can purchase Outer Embassy’s LP on CD or cassette via bandcamp and stream below. You can catch Outer Embassy in person tomorrow night at Starline opening for Dengue Fever or next month at Huichica at Gundlach Bundschu winery in Sonoma.
