Southern-bred quartet NOTS have announced two Bay Area shows in February as part of their North American tour in support of Cosmetic, their late 2016 album released on Goner Records. A tenacious performance displayed, the band’s sophomore effort delivers a promising follow-up to their 2014 debut album We Are Nots, a bold statement earning them a spot in the noise rock newcomer spotlight upon release.
Founded in 2011, the band began as a collaboration between current drummer Charlotte Watson and vocalist/guitarist Natalie Hoffman. The band claims their name was taken from a collage created by Hoffman years before the band’s nascency, inspired by the knot-ridden game of Twister. Influenced by today’s volatile political climate meshed up with an active life on tour, Hoffman wrote down reactions to everyday experiences — creating the lyrical foundations for what would soon become known to audiences as Cosmetic.
Tangle up and defy gravity — listen to a single from Cosmetic and view the music video for “Inherently Low” below. Give the Tennessean quartet another welcome to the Bay Area at their February 10 show at Thee Parkside in San Francisco and on February 11 at The Night Light in Oakland.
