Umphrey’s McGee, the six-piece improvisational dance metal band from Chicago, make their annual West Coast run of shows again in March including a very special weekend around The Bay.
On Saturday, March 11, they will make their sixth consecutive return to The Fox Theater in Oakland supported by Arizona-based improg band Spafford, followed by a debut evening with Umphrey’s McGee at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael.
The announcement of a show at Terrapin Crossroads caused quite a stir in the Umphrey’s fanbase. Not only are a large portion of fans all around jam-band and Grateful Dead enthusiasts, playing a show at original bassist Phil Lesh’s own establishment was justification for excitement. Lesh has played with the band previously at Great American Music Hall, so it is not out of the question that he might show.
Another incredibly exciting aspect of the TXR announcement is the unusually intimate nature of The Grate Room, where the band will play. With a capacity of only 250, it will be the smallest show they have played in nearly a decade.
