Sunsquabi, the three piece electro-funk group from Boulder, CO are in the midst of wrapping up their Fall tour in NorCal, including a pair of dates in the Bay Area.
On Friday, December 9 they return to Santa Cruz to play The Atrium, the front room of the downtown Catalyst Club. The next night, Saturday December 10, the band will head to San Francisco for an evening at Brick & Mortar Music Hall.
But it won’t be the same trio that rolled out West with The Floozies in the spring — on Tuesday, November 29, the bad announced via Facebook post a mutual separation of bassist and founding member Andrew Clymer from the group.
A replacement, Josh Fairman, was not explicitly announced through the band’s channels but first reported with the premiere of the latest Sunsquabi track yesterday. The track, “Pygmy Up,” features Russ Liquid and suggests that despite the loss of Clymer, the band is focused on moving forward.
Opening the California leg of the fall tour will be Maddy O’Neal, formerly of Denver-based group Krooked Drivers. O’Neal’s solo effort expands on the electronic hip-hop and soul of her previous project, this time with complete creative control. Following her two-week run with Sunsquabi, she is set to open New year’s Eve for EDM heavyweight Pretty Lights in New Orleans.
