Yes, UT Kirin is a prolific bedroom recording project from Berkeley’s HR Huber-Rodriguez. No, he’s not quite as prolific or polished as Will Toledo’s early Car Seat Headrest days, but there’s a lot there and definitely something interesting going on here. Luckily, UT Kirin’s most recent recordings also happen to be their most interesting. “Daughter of the Hadhramaut” and “2010 Ezra Koenig” are a couple of weird, yet catchy and endearing indie rock songs about living a jaded life in California.
Rodriguez recently teamed up with locals Future Myth to perform UT Kirin tracks live, and their first show is tonight at the lovable Octopus Literary Salon.
