Greensky Bluegrass at HSMF 26 Sunday

Tomorrow evening, November 5, Kalamazoo-based bluegrass extraordinares known as Greensky Bluegrass will take the stage at The Warfield in San Francisco for their fall tour finale.

Although the band, made up of Dave Bruzza on guitar, Paul Hoffman on mandolin, Michael Bont on the banjo, Anders Beck on dobro, and Mike Devol on the stand-up bass, got their start in the year 2000, it wasn’t until 2013 that the band began making serious strides in the music industry.

But for well over a decade, they have been bringing bluegrass music to life for a generation of new listeners while captivating the hearts of hoedown veterans across the country with their uniquely danceable, hardly-strictly brand of mountain disco.

Earlier this year, bluegrass favorites Leftover Salmon opened for Greensky’s sold out Red Rocks appearance, a symbolic passing of the torch that qualifies the humble quintet as one of the legitimate best in the business. Leftover Salmon also played ahead of Greensky on the main stage at this year’s High Sierra Music Festival.

Opening the evening will be Montana-based bluegrass phenoms The Lil’ Smokies, winners of the 2015 Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition. Put on your dancing boots because Saturday night at The Warfield is going to be a rip-roaring bluegrass bonanza that will have the Bay buzzing for weeks.
