Pixies - 2016

The Pixies are standing up to the monster that is 2016 and refusing to die.

After solidifying a new lineup following the 2013 departure of Kim Deal, the Boston band of misfits announced in July that their sixth album (and second since reforming in 2003) would be called Head Carrier and that Paz Lenchantin had been chosen as Deal’s permanent replacement.

Only a few short weeks after Head Carrier was released, the band announced a short West Coast warm-up tour that starts on Tuesday, October 25 at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz before taking their gig to Europe and Australia.

“We haven’t been on the road for about a year and a half, so doing these warm up dates will be a lot of fun,” said  Black Francis in a press statement that accompanied the announcement. “We’re all very proud of the new album and are looking forward to playing some of the new songs live.  We had a great time making Head Carrier and are really happy about a lot of the feedback it’s gotten.  Having Paz in the band has been great, she’s brought a whole new energy and made things fun again, and we’re excited about continuing to make more new music.”

Production for these warm-up dates will be bare-bones and stripped-down with focus on the rousing and raw, old-school urgency of the Pixies music. As is typical of The Pixies, sets will likely change somewhat from night to night, and the band plan to perform a mix of the classics and tracks from the band’s recent releases.
