Indie-cult favorites Miniature Tigers from Brooklyn have announced no less than six tour dates ahead of the release of their fifth full-length LP I Dreamt I Was A Cowboy, beginning with The Rickshaw Stop on October 6.
The first single off the album is “Crying In The Sunshine,” going to show that the most beautifully depressing yet wholesomely poppy combination of mixed imagery that Miniature Tigers has come to define themselves by has not receded at all.
“I was walking through a canyon in Southern California. I remember I was crying and I remember the sun blinding me. It felt comforting to be that sad in such a beautiful place, surrounded by flowers and cactus,” said singer Charlie Brand. “I wanted the music to feel like my life being blown apart in that canyon. I wrote the lyrics on the walk home and I finished the song the following afternoon.”
Upping the sap factor beyond the dreamy synth-pop is the title track, Brand singing back and forth with his girlfriend, actress Mae Whitman. This is not Whitman’s first foray into music, however, having worked on music videos with Tegan and Sara and appearing as a guest vocalist for indie punk band Fake Problems.
