Conor Oberst
Conor Oberst, the prince of early 2000s indie giant Bright Eyes, will be a major feature in this year’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. Not only is he getting an entire stage to curate on Friday, September 30, but he and fellow crooner Jim James of My Morning Jacket will be sharing a special headlining bill at The Fillmore on Saturday, October 1.

The theme for Hardly Strictly’s Rooster Stage on Friday is listed as “Conor Brings Friends For Friday” and features Twin Limb (who will be hitting the road in support of Jim James in November), MiWi La Lupa, who opens for Conor and Jim the next night, Anna McClellan, Hopalong, and concludes with Jim James and Oberst taking the stage at 4:30 and 5:45, respectively.

On Saturday, Oberst welcomes James as a special guest to The Fillmore. With M. Ward in town for a HSBG set of his own in the afternoon, one might hope for a surprise Monsters of Folk reemergence at The Fillmore. When asked earlier this year in an interview with The Bay Bridged, Ward didn’t rule out the possibility of the band coming back together, but you shouldn’t hold your breath.
