The Golden State Record
If you run in music-geek circles around the Bay, you might already know that “The Golden State Record” became one of the most hotly-anticipated performances of the fall before even announcing the program. As of last week they finalized their lineup for the show, and folks, we weren’t wrong to be prematurely excited.

Aiming to represent “the sounds of California,” the show will feature music and performances from rapper Lil B, writer Jon Mooallem, Best Coast‘s beachy songwriter Bethany Cosentino, Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, Magik*Magik Orchestra, and Shamir — and lots, lots more. View the rest of the lineup here.

Happening at Berkeley’s The Greek Theatre, “The Golden State Record” is a collaboration between the California Sunday Magazine, Noise Pop, and Pop-Up Magazine. If you’re wondering where the title comes from, the show’s setup is inspired partly by The Golden Record, a collection of “earthly” sounds launched into space in the late ’70s to represent our planet to other, alien cultures. In a slight parallel to the real record, this show will leave no trace: no filming, no audio recording, and no preservation of any kind will take place.
